The Importance of Tire Rotations

October 31st, 2018 by

Whether you leased or purchased a car at Sheridan Nissan or another dealership, we invite you to bring your car in for routine maintenance, like a tire rotation, when needed.

Taking your car in for a tire rotation at the recommended intervals will increase the longevity of your tires, allowing you to get longer life out of them. You may think your tires rotate constantly, but we don’t mean the revolution they make as you drive. We mean moving the tires to different wheels to get a more even wear on the tire itself. There are numerous rotation patterns, but a common method moves the front tires to the rear, in opposite positions (back left goes to right front, and back right goes to front left), and moves the rear tires to the front, in the respective position (front left to rear left and front right to rear right). The repositioning will depend on your drivetrain (front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive).

The front tires generally take the brunt of the weight distribution (your engine and transmission reside in the front of the vehicle) and will experience more wear and tear than the rear tires. Even tire wear is important regarding the car’s handling. Your drive may not be as smooth. Tires that haven’t been rotated may experience uneven tread, which means less traction in slippery situations. With less tread and less traction, you may find difficulty controlling the vehicle.

To extend the life of your tires, it is important to get them rotated at the recommended intervals. To get even wear, rotating the tires achieves this. Extending the tires’ life saves you money in the long run—you’ll have to pay for new tires less frequently and may even come across and prevent another issue before it can cause any substantial harm.

Sheridan Nissan recommends tire rotation every 7,500-10,000 miles, but you should refer to your owner’s manual for recommended care. If you drive more frequently, you may need to rotate your tires more often. Make an appointment to have your tires rotated (Sheridan Nissan services any make and model) online or give us a call at (302) 326-6100. We are conveniently located on Route 13, easily accessible from Wilmington, Newark and New Castle!
