New 2017 Nissan Titan at Sheridan Nissan for New Castle, DE

The 2017 Nissan Titan has been fully redesigned and will be a full-body truck for work crews and for regular drivers. Impressively, the engine gets a 73-hp increase since just last year. The Titan's wheelbase, in Crew Cab configuration, is roughly a foot shorter than the Titan XD, and length is over 14 inches shorter. This is actually a good thing, making the Titan easier to park in a garage and generally maneuver. The center console can hold a laptop, or whatever else that size that you might put there (I'm thinking of it as a big snack table for working days). Step up into the cab of this commanding workhorse, and be pleasantly surprised with its interior touches and driving capabilities.

Under the Titan's Hood

The Titan's base engine is a V6, with a 5.6-liter gasoline V8 available. The V8 gets 390 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque and will come attached to a seven-speed automatic. Three different powertrains will be presented in the Titan. A V-6 engine will be standard in the pickup, along with the improved V-8 mentioned above. For comparison here, the Titan XD is powered by a 5.0-liter V-8 turbodiesel made by Cummins. So far, Nissan has said the Titan's V-8 will come in rear- and four-wheel drive, but has not yet specified towing ratings nor load capacity (this will be released between now and mid-summer 2017). Not too worried in that regard, as Nissan knows its market here and I am certain that they will ensure the 2017 Titan will easily have the ability to tow and haul as generally needed in a full-body truck. Already included is a gooseneck tow hitch, so optimism will no doubt be rewarded.

Design of Nissan Titan

Production will initially be limited to the popular crew cab/short bed configuration, but Nissan will expand that to three cabs (regular, extended, crew) and three beds (5.5, 6.5 and 8 feet). There will be five grades: S, SV, Pro-4X, SL and Platinum Reserve, and your choice of 4x2 or 4x4.  The Pro4x off-road has All-terrain tires with off-road tread design, Electronic Locking Rear Differential, off-road performance shocks, transfer case and lower radiator skid plates, Hill Descent Control, and more. An available Utili-track Channel System is at the bed's top and also available is the Titan Box, which is an over the wheel-well box (set of 2) for lockable storage. The boxes are removable to become, now read this twice, portable ice coolers for drinks! There is also illuminated inset bed lighting, which is key when you have a tarp blocking the overhead lights at night. Inside gets Zero Gravity seats, a steering wheel shifter, an available Remote Engine Start System with climate control, and heated/cooled front seats. Also optional are NissanConnect with Navigation, Bluetooth® hands-free calling and text messaging, Bluetooth streaming audio and SiriusXM Travel Link, and rounding those options out is the available Around View Monitor for the towing, parking and the general awareness needed in trucks. Crew Cab Titan has a storage compartment under the second row plus a fold-out flat floor for cargo. The initial Titan had wide-swing doors, a spray-in bedliner, and channels in the bed for dividing up safer storage sections. The overhauled version includes all those, with movable cleats for mounting racks and tie-downs. I'm sure that sounds very handy to the knowing truckers out there!

On the 2017 Nissan Titan, how many interior colors are available?

With the current count of exterior colors being eleven, including Cayenne Red and Forged Copper, it may be hard to pick just one Titan. But once you do, any of them will have excellent safety features. For 2017 safety, Nissan can confirm blind-spot monitors, front and rear parking sensors are available, as well as a rear view camera. As it is not out yet at the time of this writing, safety features will be found easily enough at nissanusa.com in the summer of 2017, but it can be assumed that they will resemble the 2016 Nissan Titan XD's:  dual front side-mounted airbags, engine immobilizer, front and rear head airbags, Stability and Traction control, and 4-wheel ABS. The possibilities that are coming down the pike for the 2017 Nissan Titan and the solid structure that exists already should be enough to make any truck fan be ready to go take one for a spin the day they are unleashed at the dealer. See you there.
