New 2017 Nissan LEAF at Sheridan Nissan for New Castle, DE
The Nissan LEAF is an all-electric hatchback with a lot going for it- plus it's fun to drive! For 2017, all LEAF trims offer the 30 kWh battery that was found on LEAF SV and SL trims before 2017. The 30 kWh battery has revised chemistry and newer electrode material that turns into higher power density in 2017, as well as adds to battery durability overall. The 2017 LEAF reaches MPGe ratings of 124 city, 101 highway and 112 combined. There is also a standard spoiler with a photovoltaic solar panel on the SL trim, which contributes towards charging the 12-volt battery for vehicle accessories, besides being the coolest thing anyone has on the block!
Under the LEAF's Hood
LEAF represents its traditional range with a standard EPA-estimate of 107 miles on one charge. In addition to the 100-mile plus range, the 30 kWh battery could also be fast-charged to 80 percent (upon the low battery warning) in almost 30 minutes. The battery powers a high-response 80kW AC synchronous motor, rated at 107 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque, which powers the front wheels via a single-speed reducer. Charging the LEAF on a Level 2, 240V home charging system is thought to take about 6 hours with the 6.6 kW onboard charger, which also will charge the battery to 100 percent in about six hours (SV and SL trims). A charge port is placed on the front body under a cover for the 240V charger and portable 110V-charge cable. This system is available on the S trim, which in the standard version sees a 3.6 kW onboard charger. The LEAF has nearly 100 percent of its torque kicking in from hitting the "gas" pedal because its electric power is immediately ready! Suspension duties are handled well by a torsion beam rear suspension with integrated stabilizer bar and an independent strut suspension with stabilizer bar in front. The standard regenerative braking system in LEAF assists in increasing range. The B-mode regenerative braking is provided (for hills), as well as the Normal and Eco drive modes.
Design of Nissan LEAF
The 2017 LEAF grows from the Nissan tree in 3 trims: S, SV, and SL. LED low-beam headlights, which consume about half of the electricity of halogen headlights, are standard on LEAF SL. The LEAF also borrows from good design practices to employ a flat underbody that keeps the vehicle down from slowing down due to unwanted airflow underneath. It has a 106.3-inch wheelbase and a 61-inch height. The LEAF has plenty of room for five occupants, has as standard a 60/40-split rear seat and around 24 cubic feet of cargo space (grows to 30 cubic feet when folded down). Nissan has installed an "Approaching Vehicle Sound for Pedestrians" system. The 5-door hatchback design also looks great with chrome door handles and aerodynamic mirrors. Eight exterior colors are available, like Forged Bronze and Coulis Red. The center console area has a palm shifter for the "shift by wire" drive selector. The standard 3-spoke steering wheel (heated & leather-wrapped on SV and SL trims) mounts controls for standard cruise control, a sound system and a standard Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System. SiriusXM Satellite Radio is also standard (needs subscription) with the HomeLink Universal Transceiver becoming standard on SL models. Standard items on all trims are 4-way manual front passenger's seat, a RearView Monitor, a 6-way manual driver's seat, Automatic Temperature Control (ATC), a trip computer, and 3.6 kW onboard charger. Other standard equipment contained would be power windows with driver's single-touch auto up/down, the Nissan Intelligent Key with Push Button Start, remote charge port door release, power door locks with auto locking feature, NissanConnect, and more. The Nissan SV trim adds the Quick Charge Port, a 6-speaker audio system, the 6.6 kW onboard charger, NissanConnect with Navigation, the 7-inch color display with multi-touch control, both heated outer mirrors and steering wheel, a hybrid-friendly heater system, and more. The 2017 SL trim throws in fog lights, heated rear seats, LED low-beam auto on/off headlights, a photovoltaic solar panel spoiler, the HomeLink Universal Transceiver, leather-appointed seats, and a cargo cover.
What are the interior color options?
Two interior colors are provided, either Black (S, SV, SL trims) or Light Gray (SV trim).
What are the sound system options for the LEAF in 2017?
There are 3 choices! An AM/FM/CD with MP3/WMA CD, 4-speakers and a 5.0-inch color LCD display for the S trim. SV and SL trims gain 2 more speakers and a 7.0-inch display. An 'Energy Efficient Series' Bose system with 7-speakers is part of the Premium Package on SV and SL trims!
